When the QOTD came up about the 10 most ridiculously overpriced cars, I suggested this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Soon after it was posted on AOTD, Carmax pulled the ad from their site (prolly from embarrassment).
FFWD a month later and the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for a slightly less ridiculous price of $6599.
It's a fake savings of $1396!!!

You think that the saturn is overpriced, look at this 2002 Kia. It is considered a "Value Car".
Blue Book for excellent condition is $2,420

I think that the mark up at carmax is mostly on their older models, as I bought my Kia Soul from them last year for about $1,000 under book value.

Nice you drive a Soul? How is it? I've read several reviews comparing it with xB and cube and the soul keeps coming out on top.

I'm an ex-Carmax Employee. Despite selling ridiculously overpriced cars, it was a fun gig because I could sell someone anything (the inventory is over 40,000 cars). I had a few fun ones (Audi RS5, Volvo C30, Honda S2K, etc), but mostly Accords and Altima's/
The two I felt most bad about:
1. 2004 Toyota Camry LE: 104k, base-model, super clean. Price: $10,990.
2. 2006 Saturn Ion 2: 26k, base model (non-power windows, non-power locks, etc) $12,499.

I love my Soul. It has more than enough space, and is nice to drive.

ValueMax Cars, especially those under $10,000 last for only a week or two on the lot. This Kia may be a special case - it's been on the site for awhile. Not even the best salesperson can justify that price for a 10y/o Kia.
Most prices you see on Carmax Cars that are not auction bought (they buy from the general public, too) are about $5,000 over what they pay for them.

If you can't decide between a 2-door and a 4-door, get a 3-door!

Holy shit! I bought a 99 SC2 7 years ago for $3000 and traded it in for 1450 after I put 20k miles on it. Guess I should have held on to it!

On door unique-ness, I'll take an RX-8 instead.

Hold the phone! It also comes with something called a walk-in device .

The RX8 and Ion coupe are the only modern 4-door coupes. Those German impostors are sedans.
